I went to Shanghai for a month, met a retired ballet dancer named Li Feng. He danced in People's Park. There was a daily cacaphony of people dancing in various ways to their various types of loud music, each could hear their own tunes. Li Feng tried to teach me a simple Chinese ballet dance, handed me a little hand fan and said "just follow me." I couldn't. I provided amusement for the onlookers, and got to be friends with Li Feng. He'd been recruited at the age of 6 into the Russian ballet in Beijing, danced all his life. He spoke about being frustrated he couldn't leap at age 65+ the way he did as a youth. He was fascinating to watch.
